Stop using electronic cigarettes

Hong Kong’s Department of Health Wednesday called on smokers not to use electronic cigarettes as the safety, efficacy and quality of such kind of product have to be established.

A spokesman for the department said Wednesday that initial laboratory analysis on an electronic cigarette sample revealed that it contained nicotine.

The spokesman said under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, electronic cigarettes containing nicotine and marketed as tobacco cessation products were classified as pharmaceutical products requiring registration in Hong Kong.

The department raided a shop in Sham Shui Po earlier on Wednesday, resulting in the seizure of nine types of electronic cigarettes. It has also instructed the parties concerned to remove electronic cigarette advertisements and promotional materials from their websites.

The spokesman said possession or sale of an unregistered pharmaceutical product, and possession of Part I poisons without authority, were both liable on conviction to a 100,000 HK dollars (about 12,820 U.S. dollars) fine and two years’ imprisonment.

He urged members of the public who have been using electronic cigarettes to stop using them immediately.

I have been using the electronic cigarette for 5 months. Before this I was smoking 3 packs a day of cigarettes. I had developed Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease and everytime I lite a cigarette I would cough severely. I had severe shortness of breath. Since switching to the electronic cigarette I no longer cough or have shortness of breath. This has been a life saver for me. How could something so bad be so good for health. There may be some contaminates in the electronic cigarette but could not have nearly as many as regular cigarettes. There are literally thousands of testimonies just like this one.

If this is taken off the market I would definitely go back to cigarettes. I would eventually die. If this happens I would be forced to file a civil suite with hundreds of thousands of other electronic cigarette users.

I ask that you allow electronic cigarettes to remain on the marked with stipulations that we use these at our own risk. In the meantine FDA can proceed to test these for approval.

Yes Martha they want you to die, they want all of us tobacco and e-cig users to die. But before we go they want that last little bit of money from us to make them just a little bit richer.
As far as using at your own risk, Oh no that is the point of big government. To protect us from ourselves. Because we are stupid and they need to regulate how we live by, increasing taxes on tobacco because it is not healthy. Next thing to tax will be all things containing sugar, salt and fat.
