US Smokeless Tobacco Co. to Pay $5M to Family of Smokeless Tobacco User

Altria Group Inc, the owner of the UST, the largest smokeless tobacco manufacturer in the country agreed to pay a $5 million US Smokeless Tobacco Co. settlement in a lawsuit initiated by the family of a long-term smokeless tobacco user who perished due to mouth cancer at the age of 42. The settlement—which was accomplished some time ago and finalized just recently —is much unexpected since experts admit that no ruling has ever been applied against a tobacco company for allegedly causing damage by smokeless tobacco that is consumed by putting between gums and lips.
