Safety of dissolvable tobacco products disputed

Tobacco company rep David Howard waxes enthusiastic when he talks about a new product his employer, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., has developed: a pellet of finely cured tobacco, binders and flavoring that dissolves in the mouth in 10 minutes.

Altria 2Q Profit Falls 57% On Charges, Cigarette Volume

NEW YORK -Altria Group Inc.’s (MO) second-quarter earnings fell 57% on a previously disclosed tax-related charge and lower cigarette volume, and the company warned the remainder of the year would remain challenging.
